Kitchen Recap doesn’t run a test lab, and we don’t pretend to. Here is exactly what happens before a product appears on this site.
We start from the problem, not the product
Every article begins with a question someone actually asks: which scale stays accurate at 5 g, which can opener doesn’t leave a razor edge. Products are then judged on how well they answer that question, not on how well they sell.
What we read
Manufacturer specifications, published independent lab testing where it exists, and verified owner reviews at volume. We weight reviews that have held up over months more heavily than a burst of new ones.
What we weight
The specifications that change the outcome, not the ones printed biggest on the box. The complaints that recur across hundreds of reviews rather than the loudest single one. And a track record: how a product is described a year after launch.
What gets a product excluded
A handful of glowing reviews with no history. Complaints that all converge on the same flaw. Claims we can’t verify anywhere outside the brand’s own marketing.
What we say about hands-on use
When we have used a product ourselves, we say so plainly. When we haven’t, we don’t imply it. Phrases like “we tested” appear on this site only where testing actually happened.
Prices and availability
Both change constantly. We check at publication and update when we can, but the retailer’s page is always the authority.
